Lesson 1: "You Reap What You Sow"
Though this series of messages will mainly be written with Assistant Pastors in mind, these are lessons that every Christian can learn and use in their lives. For 6 years I filled the position of assistant pastor to many great men of God. During those six years I learned many lesson. Some of those lessons were great and enjoyable. However, being a young assistant pastor I learned some other lessons, the HARD WAY.

This first lesson that I learned was that you reap what you sow. One of the main things that I felt as a young assistant pastor was that I deserved something for the work that I was doing. What a mistake that a lot of us make within our own daily lives. We deserve nothing but to die in our trespasses and sins, yet Christ died for us. We are all sinners in need of a Savior and deserving of nothing but death. (See Romans 3:10-12 and Romans 6:23) During those first few years I began to complain about the administration that was above me. Though I loved them dearly, I still had a mentality I deserved something that I did not.
Before continuing this story we need to delve into the Word of God in order to convey what God says about these issues. Did you know there are times we as humans misquote the Bible? WHAT!? Yes, it is true. Now let me test you on one I am going to use in this blog. Finish the statement I am about to give you. "Pride goes before..." What would be your next statement? Would your answer be a fall? That is actually not what the Bible states. The Bible tells us pride comes before destruction. It's a lot harder to get up from pride if you are DESTROYED! (Proverbs 16:18) The Bible also teaches us we will reap what we sow. In Galatians 6:7 the Bible tells us whatever we reap we will sow. In verse 8 it repeats the same comment but adds a little more to it. "For the one who sows to his own flesh will from the flesh reap corruption..." Now keep these things in mind while I continue our lesson. Here are a few thoughts we should understand when it comes to this lesson. 1. We as Christian's should never think of ourselves better then another. The book of Romans tells us this in chapter 12 verse 3. We ought not to think higher of ourselves then any other person. 2. Also, as humans we do not deserve anything we have in our lives. Thank God for the things you have and the things He has done for you. 3. Keep in mind God has placed those in authority over you. 4. Know that God is in control and He will not be mocked. If you have found yourself thinking these things ask the Lord to forgive you of your thoughts and allow Him to work in your heart before the reaping and or destruction comes. In conclusion, let us finish my story. I began to complain because I thought I was smarter and better at the things they were doing. This Pride caused an attitude in my heart that spread to my thoughts, actions, and words. I found myself being overwhelmed with regret years later. I was under so much conviction that I had to go back and apologize to previous pastors for the way I acted towards them. Not only this, but I had the same things happen to me when I became a senior pastor. Know that reaping what you sow will come to fruition and pride should not be in the heart of any Christian especially not of those in leadership roles.Let this be one lesson you will NOT have to learn the hard way!
